Winter Activities
About a week before you arrive be sure to check the weather for Lake Arrowhead. If it is snowing or has snowed in the last 48 hours they might require 4-wheel drive or chains to get up to our home. If you are like me and grew up in California this may be new for you. This is my advice…
If you don’t have 4-wheel drive, go to Walmart and they should be able to help you buy the right chains for your car. The Walmart where I live is great about returns. I would ask your Walmart about their return policy. If you don’t need the chains you might be able to return them.
About ten minutes before you arrive at our home, they will stop you to have you put on your chains. If you don’t know how to put the chains on, they will help you put them on for $50. I would bring cash.
As of October 1, 2020, Lake Arrowhead Association decided they will not allow renters anywhere on the water.
So basically the only way to get on the water is with the boat charter or ski school. As you can imagine, during the cold some of these shut down so be sure to call from the links below.
And if you are adventurous, Alpine slide offers sledding and snow options after a ride up the chairlift. I’ve been told it is great for families.

You will probably pass Skypark at Santa’s Village on the way up the mountain close to our home. This is great for mountain bike riding for young families or experts. Beautiful hikes, rock wall climbing, Northwoods Express Train Ride, great food, fishing lessons on Lady Bug Pond and sometimes ziplining. Call them to see what is open based on Covid and the weather. They aim to open year-round.
If you are ready to ski, there are several choices. Mammoth is on the link below but it is nowhere near our home. I would find the ski resort description you like and then put our address in google maps from 1137 Nadelhorn in Lake Arrowhead so you know the distance. Again call the resort from the learn more link below and make sure you know hours, prices and snow conditions.
Here are some great hikes that you might enjoy. They don’t want renters hiking near the lake anymore. But there are a lot of great hikes that aren’t part of the association below. If it is or has been snowing, hikes won’t work unless you have snow shoes. ENJOY!
